Friday 20 February 2009

Ever covered your flat in bubblewrap, drunk a bottle of night nurse and rolled around the walls till the popping stopped?

So next week, we are joined by Rik Maron, Dave Stenton, and Charlie Bennet, the men behind ToTheBone.

These are three men united by the common bonds of house music, night nurse, and dark, debauched discos. After four years of raising the roof under London's lowest ceilings, they know a thing or two about how to have a party, and I reckon that with them in tow, we should be in for a bit of a session next Saturday.

If you've not heard of them before, try tuning into one of their monthly ToTheBone podcasts – a monthly adventure in radio fuelled by strong booze, weak jokes and lots of Arthur Russell records. To get an idea of what's fueling their musical desires right now, here's their current top 10, in absolutely no particular order:

Hot R.S. - Slow Blow
Ramona Brooks - I Don't Want You Back
Wild Geese - Macho Disco
The Escorts - Make Me Over
The Earons - Land of Hunger
Low Motion Disco - Love Love Love (Soft Rocks remix)
Arthur Russell - Get Around To It
Risque - Thunder & Lightning (on 33 1/3)
$tinkworx - Coelecanth
Nebraska - Soft Return
Look out for more, slightly pointless top tens soon.

If you really can't wait until next Saturday, check out Charlie TTB's latest mix.

The return of the Cosmic Truth!

Gonna keep this one brief folks, cos if you don't know by now, that what have you been doing with yourselves, but it is time to tell you that next Saturday, 28th Februaturn of Who's Afraid of the Cosmic Truth!
As ever, we've hunted high and low for a suitable venue and in doing so found the perfect space for a our cosmic soiree. A fully stocked bar, specially fitted sound, plenty of space to dance, and - ahem - liberal attitude to licensing laws, I think we should be in for a good night.

Not only that, but we have secured our space, which is just a stones throw from Old Street round about, to hold parties on the last Saturday of every month!

Joining us for the first party will be the podcasting scallywags, ToTheBone (more on them later), who will be supplying their trade mark 'house and other types of music all night long'. See what they did there?

Get ready for a mental night! The Cosmic Truth goes monthly... Be afraid!

Bad Passion / AMO1 EP launch party

For anyone who's been sleeping under a rock for the past few months, time to sit up and take note that A Mountain Of One are just about to release their new E.P.

Back in 2007, AMO1 entered the fold with a series of ultra-limited releases, followed by their debut long player, Collected Works to much critical aclaim. The album, referencing the likes of Santana, Neil Young, and John Martyn, was one of the most absorbing pieces of music that year, and quite frankly up their with the greatest albums of it's genre (whatever that is).

So it's not without some excitement that we await the full release of their Instiute of Joy E.P, and to celebrate, the launch party is being held by none other than our friends Bad Passion.

Mo Morris of A Mountain of One will be gracing the decks, with a selection of tracks that have inspired the band, from oddball rock, to out-there psychedelia, plus the Bad Passion Project residents, who'll be keeping things going until 5am. If their last gigs are anything to go by, this is sure to be an incredible party, not to be missed!

Bad Passion are made up of Chris Stoker, Andy Bainbridge, and none other than Dan Mitchell, who some of you will know well from the Cosmic Truth. It's at this point, however, that we should say that from now on Dan is flying the Cosmic Truth nest to concentrate on Bad Passion. With a series of parties coming up to launch releases that will be exclusively available via his music retail site, who are we to hold him back.

We wish Dan and the rest of the Bad Passion boys all the best of luck in the future, not that they'll need it, and look forward to continuing to spread the cosmic message, on two front instead of one! Look out for future collaborations, but in the mean time, see you at the AMO1 EP launch party on Saturday!
