SECRETSUNDAZE OPENING 2009

Dust off your sunglasses....

OK, so everyone knows that the first sign of Summer is not the clocks going forward, nor is it the first BBQ on the park, or indeed the smell of Hawian Tropic - its Secretsundaze opening party! We've been going to James, Giles & Kristophe's little shindigs since it first started on the now defunct top floor of 93 Feet East, so its a pleasure to have been asked to host the back room of their 2009 opening party. Big up to Dan and Claire over there too.

Check >here< for a nicely written piece that appeared on Resident Advisor recently on the guys.
When it comes to putting on a party these Cambridge ex-pats know what they are doing, constantly raising the bar when it comes to production, programming and hosting acclaimed events worldwide - but this Sunday sees them in thier spiritual home of East London (albeit South East this time)! We've been told first hand that the venue is something special and we can't wait.

Ace new music for you to go out and buy!

Ok, this is the thing. Sometimes records come out that you just have to get your hands on, and here is one such record: The excellent first release on Late Night Audio recordings from Das Volt
Not an edit in sight, this is warm, enveloping, original music, produced using vintage analogue synths, for a truly rich and immersive sound. I've been playing the deep, slow and groovy Fantasy instrumental since I got hold of this record, but the remixes of Gestures, from Toby Tobias and Fabrizio Mamarella, both add completely new directions. A must. Go buy it now!

Reach for the lasers!

Rave cliche alert!!!!

But oh don't those lasers look nice! Thanks to Dom and the Hellfire Crew for putting on a great party last week. And hello to the lovely Cosmo too. Thanks for having us - we had a great time.

We can highly recommend this party - join their facebook group to find out when the next one is...

Recovery...

Well well well... It's been a while. What can we say? We've been busy recovering from the last few weeks! Plus I've been in Belgium doing some digging, although in actual fact a lot more time than expected was taken up with this:
Won't keep you too long, but we just wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who partied with us and Balearic Mike in the Peruvian basement...
Big love to Mike for supplying top tunes and being a perfect house guest! And finally, a big thanks to all the Mancs who looked after us so well before, during and after the fantastic El Diablos party. Proper Northern Hospitality!

Introducing...Sabrina Taylor

Los Angeles based singer Sabrina Taylor has, it appears, written a song about us.

Maybe she found herself in Dalston when we were putting on a party and went back to the Sunshine State brimming with inspiration? Maybe our SEO strategy meant that she's been following the blog from the West Coast? Maybe she overheard DJ Harvey talking about us as they sat in the departure lounge of LAX as he waited for a flight back to Hawaii. We can but guess. But with the revelation that we have been imortalised in a MOR ditty worthy of an episode of Dawson's Creek, comes her automatic inclusion in "The Cosmic Truth's recommendations for 2009" (albeit by default).

BTW - Any other singer/songwriters out there thinking about using similar tactics to gain a place in this coveted list, let us tell you now not to bother. This trick is only working once. Hats off to Sabrina for getting there first by thinking up a maverick back-door way onto the list and executing her stealth-like plan so efficiently.

Oh and in the event that Taylor makes it big (and we DO get namechecked on Dawson's Creek)...you heard it here first!

New Music // Electric Minds

Arthur Russell was the gifted American composer and musician who continues to inspire and influence many of today's artists. A special record is coming up from our friends at Electric Minds that both celebrates Russell's work and marks their 10th 12" vinyl release. If you'd like a sneak preview click here for the audio from all 3 tracks. Oh and if anyone from the PRS is reading this, all the vocals and instruments have been re-recorded.

The 12" will be in the shops mid April and DJ Mag have already hotly tipped the release:
